As the Topolino was woven into Italian culture, the pressure was on at Fiat to come up with a successful replacement for their stylish mouse. Their response was the Nuova 500, a remarkably advanced city car sporting unibody construction and a fully independent suspension. This, for an inexpensive economy car in 1957! Dubbed the "Cinquecento", or "500" in Italian, this little overachiever quickly earned a loyal following that the new version still enjoys to this day. This stunning 1971 Fiat 500L clearly demonstrates the charming virtues that this fixture of Italian culture possesses.
