Frame Off Restoration/177ci I4/Factory Ford Jack/Great Driver/Truly Stunning

1927 Ford Model T Roadster 

For consignment, a 1927 version of the model T and it probably was one of the last of the Tin Lizzy's to be produced as production ceased in October of 1927, after 15 million of them were produced.  This car is the beneficiary of an earlier frame off restoration, and presents in very good condition.  Legend says that the car only came in one color, black, however this is not true as early cars came in every color but black, and from 1914 to 1925 black was the only color. 

Exterior
Simple construction is the theme here with straight stamped steel wrapping the car from head to toe.  A chromed grille with the thermostat Motometer radiator cap and a single flanking round headlight on a crossbar lead the way with no bumper below.  Burgundy painted steel is in use for the cowled hood behind the radiator as well as the remainder of the car.  No rust is noted on any metal associated with this car, and curved fenders, tub lowers as well as the running boards are white pinstriped black painted formed pieces of steel adhered to the exterior body.  This roadster has a like new convertible top in black, with a tonneau covering in a tan canvas with brown piping to cover it in the down position.  A gracefully curved downward trunk deck starts from this top covering and lands at the back bottom of the car.  On the back, a black vinyl covered spare tire is mounted for easy changing, and in those days was a needed necessity as most roads were dirt at best.  21-inch black wire spoke wheels are wrapped in 4.40/4.50-21 tires with whitewalls and chromed hub centers.  

Interior
Simple black vinyl door panels cover the doors with just an actuator lever within this field.  Inside is a black tuck and roll full buggy bench seat with buttons and in excellent condition resides for the passengers.  This sits in a burgundy steel tub and is floated by the floors which are rubber covered and the standard 3 pedal setup is there to move the car forward and backward with no shift lever.  Yes these cars take some getting accustomed to to drive them and are totally different from the modern day setup.  A metal dash with a polished central panel with the key switch and an amp meter gauge is in the canter.  The large steering wheel and column has the throttle lever and spark advance on the column all in black with chromed levers.  This car has been first class finished inside with more black vinyl panels for the toe kick sides and next to the bench on the vertical surfaces.

Drivetrain
Under the cowled hood is all looking freshly restored with the block and head of this 177ci 4 cylinder being painted black.  All like new, even down to the vintage looking wiring and a supple hose attaches the radiator to the engine block.  New hoses in metal with new fittings are all over this engine.  A 1-barrel carburetor feeds the car fuel and a 2 speed planetary transmission is on back.  The rear axle is a 3.63 ratio.

Undercarriage
Up on the lift simplicity abounds with strong framing and cross members as well as the supports for the running boards.  The stamped steel floor pans and toe kicks are painted burgundy.  The battery is mounted underneath and is of a 6 volt kind.  Transverse leaf springs, not rusted, provide the ride and braking is mechanical drums on the rear with a foot brake operating a restrictive band on the planetary transmission.  KISS to the max.

Drive-Ability
Those who know…know, others must learn, but I know so I took it for a spin.  Very little noise from the valves and a smooth idle and acceleration from a 1927 version of a 177ci 4 popper.  All was working fine during my test drive.  One goes to change the gears with a foot pedals which worked fine as well.

A very nice example of this last year of production model, so I have to say the bugs were worked out.  This car is an old wonder, and is a fun driver and absolute head turner.
